Climate Smart Food in Urban Environments: Mapping Growing Capacity in Calgary, Alberta

Figure 2 Urban Farming in Calgary, Bowness Growing Potential Map.jpg

This map was created for my recent research project on urban agriculture. “Climate Smart Food in Urban Environments: Mapping Growing Capacity in Calgary, Alberta” was a year long project that explored the potential of our immediate environment to produce local food. We introduced the concept of Climate Smart Food, which can be defined as appropriate and adaptable food that is deliberately produced and purchased because of its associated low-carbon intensity. Through the sustainable intensification of land, we can transform our food systems.

An extended gratitude for Victoria Fast, Rod Olson, and Starr Brainard for helping this project through.
